What the evidence says
TMS for PTSD has moderate support: several trials report symptom reduction with right-sided or bilateral stimulation, and the VA has studied it in veterans. The FDA has not cleared TMS for PTSD, so protocols vary between clinics. See the coverage hub, the TMS hub, and the coverage checker.
Who is a candidate
Adults with PTSD who have not improved with trauma-focused therapy and medication, especially when depression is also present. The depression indication is usually what qualifies a course for insurance; the clinic may adjust the protocol for PTSD symptoms.
What treatment looks like
The same daily schedule as depression treatment, sometimes with different coil placement. No sedation, no driving restriction.
Coverage and cost
